Replacing the Ignition Lock Cylinder & Switch Assembly (with Keys) in a 2002-2007 Saturn Vue
Part 1: Removal of the Old Ignition Lock Cylinder & Switch
-
Disconnect the Battery – Remove the negative terminal to prevent electrical shorts or airbag deployment.
-
Remove the Steering Column Covers – Use a trim tool to release the clips on the upper and lower steering column shrouds and take them off.
-
Locate the Ignition Switch Bolts – Under the column, you’ll see three 10mm bolts securing the ignition switch to the steering column.
-
Remove the Bolts – Use a 10mm socket (a swivel extension helps) to unbolt and set them aside.
-
Unplug the Electrical Connector – Disconnect the wiring harness from the ignition switch.
-
Release the Lock Cylinder – Insert the original key, turn it to "ACC" (Accessory), then press the release pin (small hole near the cylinder) while pulling the cylinder straight out.
Part 2: Installation of the New Ignition Lock Cylinder & Switch
-
Insert the New Lock Cylinder – With the key in "ACC", slide the new cylinder in until it clicks.
-
Reinstall the Ignition Switch – Align the switch with the column, then secure it with the three 10mm bolts. Tighten snugly but avoid over-torquing.
-
Reconnect the Wiring – Plug the electrical connector back into the switch.
-
Test the New Assembly – Reconnect the battery and verify the key turns smoothly through all positions (OFF, ACC, ON, START).
-
Reattach Steering Column Covers – Snap the upper and lower shrouds back into place.
